Internship Opportunities

It is our goal to ensure that every intern gets as much as possible out of their experience at The Refuge Center for Counseling—both personally and professionally. Our interns make connections, gain experience, participate in continuing education, receive supervision and support and do meaningful work!

We are currently accepting applications for Spring 2024 and Summer 2024 practicums/internships. We have a three-step, pre-interview application process.  To submit your application and begin the process, please email your resume (or CV), along with the pre-interview questionnaire (available below) to Tina Taylor Goode, LPC-MHSP, Director of Intern Program, at tina.goode@therefugecenter.org

After years working in residential treatment, I felt a readiness to more intentionally focus on developing my clinical skill set. Joining the Post Masters Volunteer Fellowship Program was a beautiful opportunity to build a caseload that was flexible with my full-time work, gain access to a wealth of free professional development resources and opportunities, and to do so in the midst the most nurturing & supportive environment.

The Refuge Center was critical for me during my time as a Post Masters Volunteer. I had just finished school and wasn’t sure quite what I wanted to do, and The Refuge Center provided a safe place to land. They nurtured me, encouraged me, challenged me, and taught me to be confident in my abilities as a clinician. I would not be where I am today without their guidance in the Post Master’s Volunteer Program!

I found out about Refuge's Post-Masters Volunteer Program from a few of my friends. I had known two volunteers who spoke highly of their experience in a professional and encouraging atmosphere. I also had two close friends who had interned with Refuge and encouraged me to join the team in whatever capacity I could due to Refuge's mission aligning so closely with mine. I knew upon graduation that I wanted to serve in an area where I could reach a wide population and provide quality care to those in need with care rooted in faith. I knew that the volunteer program was a way to continue making the sliding-scale possible for clients and would help me gain the hours necessary in working towards getting my license. I also appreciated the community aspect that Refuge offers every member of their team, whether staff, contract, volunteer, or intern. Now that I am a member of the contract team at Refuge, I am so thankful for the time I had as a Post-Master Volunteer Counselor. It allowed me to serve my community and feel fully supported as I started my career in the mental-health field.

After not using my degree directly for nearly 10 years, the PMVF program was a wonderful re-entry point into the field of counseling. The PMVF program allowed me the opportunity to gain confidence as a new therapist and grow alongside and learn from supervisors and peers who are recognized in their areas of expertise, who are ambitious, and who are also kind. I cannot say enough good things about Amy Alexander’s group supervision, which is free for those participating in the PMVF program. The Refuge Center boosted my direct client contact hours toward licensure and provided diverse clinical experience that I might not have found elsewhere.
