Purpose of the Position:

Provide excellent clinically appropriate emotional and mental health care therapy to individuals, couples, families and/or groups on behalf of the Refuge Center for Counseling.  All clinical work is to guided by the Refuge Center policies and procedures as well as the relevant professional ethics.

Specific Duties

  • The Volunteer will arrange to be under the clinical supervision of a TN Board approved licensed therapist while meeting with clients at the Refuge Center. The Volunteer will attend clinical supervision on a regular basis as agreed upon in TN General Rules for LMFTs, LPC/MHSPs or LCSWs.
  • Volunteers agree to a term of 12 months at 8 hrs/week, OR to Volunteer for 12 or more hrs/week for 8 months. Therapists participating in the PMVF program in good standing may choose to extend their time as a PMVF therapist beyond these time periods in 4 month increments.
  • Volunteers present for 8 hours a week on site at Refuge will schedule 6 client sessions/wk in order to maintain 5 client sessions a week consistently. Volunteers present for 12 hours a week on site at Refuge will schedule 9 client sessions/wk in order to average 7.5 client sessions per week consistently.   (Time for free clinical group supervision would not be included in the 8 hours/week.)
  • The Volunteer will purchase and maintain up to date malpractice liability insurance. The volunteer will provide a copy of the insurance to Refuge and always maintain a current policy of insurance, naming Refuge as an additional loss payee.
  • The Volunteer must be pursuing licensure in the counseling profession in the state of Tennessee.
  • The Volunteer will strive to participate in special Refuge Center gatherings which facilitate connection and mutual support.
  • The Volunteer will complete all clinical documentation required by The Refuge Center within expected time limits.
  • The Volunteer will uphold all Refuge Center Policies and Procedures, and will sign an agreement that they have read and understand these Policies and Procedures before working with clients.
  • The Volunteer will uphold the ACA, AAMFT or other appropriate code of ethics governing ‘abandonment of clients’, by providing adequate (10 week) notice before terminating with The Refuge Center for Counseling.

Skills, Education, Experience

  • Completion of Masters or Doctoral Degree in accredited graduate psychology program and actively pursuing licensure toward one of these clinical areas:  LPC-MHSP, LMFT, or LCSW with appropriate internship and clinical experience.  (Other clinical licenses may be considered.)
  • Maintain healthy passion for this work through regular, consistent self-care practices, continuing education and case consultation with other experienced clinicians.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate competency with electronic medical reporting (EMR) for the purpose of establishing and maintaining client files and reporting requirements required by RCC.
  • Excellent, consistent calendar management to enable visibility of client appointments (existing and openings for new clients) in line with PMVF therapist duties.
