Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a therapeutic model that trains caregivers to provide effective support and treatment for at-risk children.

The Refuge Center has openings for an upcoming TBRI training (Trust-Based Relational Intervention). Four-day training over two weekends, January 25 & 26 and February 8 & 9. 8:00 am – 3:00 pm each day
Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis. $100 deposit to reserve your space by January 25. Balance must be paid in full by January 25th online or with a check the first day of the training. Checks should be sent to The Refuge Center, 103 Forrest Crossing Blvd. Suite 102, Franklin, TN 37064. Attn: Madeleine Shore or pay online through PayPal (You do not have to have a PayPal account).
- The remainder of the registration fee ($200) is due on the first day of the training. Please be aware that no CEUs are offered for this training but a certificate of completion will be given. Thank you for helping to get the word out to other clinicians.

Brief Description:
Children and youth who have experienced foster care or orphanage-rearing have often experienced complex developmental trauma, demonstrating an interactive set of psychological and behavioral issues. Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a therapeutic model that trains caregivers to provide effective support and treatment for at-risk children. TBRI has been applied in orphanages, courts, residential treatment facilities, group homes, foster, and adoptive homes, churches, and schools. It has been used effectively with children and youth of all ages and all risk levels. TBRI is effective because it is founded in research and theory of how optimal development should have occurred for these children. By applying these principles, TBRI helps a child or youth return to their natural developmental trajectory.
Training Overview:
The primary goal of the TBRI Training is to present an introduction and overview of the research-based therapeutic model, followed by specific training related to the model’s three main principles (i.e., Empowering, Connecting, and Correcting). The training will demonstrate the three essential parts of the model, which will help therapists and caregivers in helping at-risk children reach their full potential. Each participant that completes the entire training will receive a TBRI® Caregiver Training Certificate.
Steve Jackson, LMFT, Instructor
Steve Jackson has been married for 24 years. He and his wife, Lynley, have four children, two of whom were adopted internationally. One of their children was an older child adoption with special needs. Steve’s heart for helping hurting families propelled him into pursuing a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University at the age of forty-four. In addition to running a private practice in Brentwood, TN, he is contracted as a supervisor with The Refuge Center in Franklin, TN. Steve has a passion for working with adoptive and foster families, as well as those who have children with special needs. He feels that it is an honor to work with individuals, couples, and families that are struggling with difficult issues, or just wanting to be more proactive in their relationships, marriage, and parenting. Steve is currently a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Educator, along with additional training in EMDR therapy, which is very effective when working with unresolved trauma. Steve is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AAMFT Approved Supervisor in training, and a Clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT).
