What does music therapy look like?

Typically involves the therapist and/or the client(s) playing music live in session. It may include interventions such as songwriting, lyric analysis, music-guided relaxation & mindfulness, active singing, instrument play, improvisation, drumming activities, and musical games.

What is the goal?

Goals addressed with music therapy may include – emotional catharsis and expression, practice with coping skills, bolstering identity and self-esteem, regulation of energy levels, increasing presence and distress tolerance, and increasing self-awareness. It also offers a space for safety and success.
