The day has come—your child has graduated from high school and is off to college. It is a time of mixed emotions and many changes as you and your young adult child contemplate how your relationship will look in this next stage of life. Your role as a parent will be different. As your child moves towards independence, he/she needs to know he/she can contact you anytime. Being flexible about time and frequency of contact will be a benefit to both of you. Have conversations now with your student about reasonable expectations regarding academic success and visits home. Any transition to a new stage is filled with a whole range of emotions. If you find yourself having a difficult time, our therapists at The Refuge Center are available to walk this pathway with you. Call us today at 615.591.5262 or visit us at www.therefugecenter.org.
