owning our storyI don’t know very many people that look forward to being asked, “So, tell me a little bit about yourself”. Not only are you being asked to wrap up a few decades worth of life into a few sentences, but often times we find ourselves feeling pressure to tell that person what we think they want to hear. We try to present ourselves as someone who will fit in perfectly with that group.

But what would happen if we began to own our stories? What if we let go of the basic worry of what other people think about our lives? Many of us can look at a situation and become exactly who we think we need to be to fit in. But what if we didn’t just fit in, what if we belonged? Belonging only happens when we know our true self, can embrace that, and proudly show it to others. It is not easy, but it certainly is brave.

If you are interested in finding your true self The Refuge Center is a great place to belong. Our counselors are here to listen to your story and encourage you to be proud of your journey. Visit us at www.therefugecenter.org or call us at 615.591.5262.
