The Art of Mindfulness

Have you tried to quiet your mind only to find yourself discouraged because you have trouble “not thinking of anything?”  If so, the very tool that should help provide emotional regulation may be causing anxiety! Viewing mindfulness as a moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience without judgment may help.  When meditating or practicing mindfulness, as thoughts enter our minds we allow them and then gently dismiss them as if they are floating away on a cloud. This nonjudgmental attitude allows us to be more aware of our present experience.
Here are some benefits of practicing mindfulness:
1.    Stress reduction
2.    Increased working memory capacity
3.    Less emotional reactivity
4.    Better relationship satisfaction

If you would like to start experiencing these benefits in your life, contact The Refuge Center at (615)592-5262 or visit us at refugecenter.org for more information about the services we offer.
