New Job Opportunity at The Refuge Center: Bookkeeper (Part-time)

Position/Title: Bookkeeper

Organization: The Refuge Center for Counseling

Reports to: Operations Manager

Purpose of the Position: Supporting the vision and staff of The Refuge Center by managing the accounts payable and receivable of the organization

Accounts Payable

  • Review invoices and check requests for appropriate documentation and required approval
  • Verify any credit card charges and match with proper expense documentation
  • Issue, maintain and reconcile purchase orders
  • Process check payments for invoices and check requests
  • Obtain second signature on checks as needed
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records within QuickBooks in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Maintain files and documentation matching all invoices and check requests to copies of checks
  • Maintain W-9 information for all contract labor.
  • Ensure timely, annual process and delivery of all 1099’s and associated paperwork to the IRS

Accounts Receivable

  • Ensure adherence to policy for maintaining safe keeping of client payments
  • Perform weekly deposit of client payments
  • Prepare weekly deposit
  • Complete deposit worksheets
  • Enter deposit information into QuickBooks in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles

Expectations:

  • Follow existing standard protocol for all job responsibilities and assist in creating operating procedures that ensure accuracy, efficiency and protect the integrity of TRC
  • Assist in month-end closing activities as required and additional journal entries as requested by CPA
  • Assist in year-end closing activities as required and additional journal entries as requested by CPA
  • Assist in annual audit as required by auditing firm

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, college level accounting classes or Accounting Degree preferred
  • 2-4 years bookkeeping/accounting experience
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel) and word processing documents
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks preferred
  • Ability to work with a team of people
  • Strong communication skills
  • 10-15 hours per week
