Forgiveness is a blessing we can give to ourselves. It doesn’t mean the memory of what has happened is gone nor does it change what has happened to us. But it allows us to see with new eyes and to remove the hatred we hold against ourselves in our hearts. For some, it is far easier to forgive others than to forgive themselves. Self-hate often presents in feelings of self-contempt and self-doubt. What is usually at the root of this self-hate is fear…the fear of not being loved. Learning to focus on and appreciate yourself can help this fear fade. This journey of self-discovery can be life changing! If you need someone to help you start on this pathway, please call The Refuge Center for Counseling at 615.591.5262 and visit our website at www.therefugecenter.org.
