What is Emotionally Focused Therapy "EFT"?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a revolutionary, empirically supported approach to healing fractured couple relationship in the 21st century, developed by Dr. Sue Johnson.

The purpose of this workshop is to help clinicians understand the theoretical conceptualization of EFT, the intervention skills and overall structure. The workshop is designed for clinicians who desire some basic training in EFT and allows for observation and practice of working with attachment emotions as an agent with couples in different stages of treatment.

The workshop will overview the nature of adult attachment, the steps & stages of EFT, and the commonly used interventions to help couples repair and develop their relationship. It is taught utilizing a variety of methods including lectures, interactive discussions, and experiential small team groups.

Participants will:

  • Understand the phenomenon of marital distress in an attachment context
  • Understand the stages of EFT
  • Be able to identify specific interventions to help couples reprocess negative affect and restructure negative interactions
  • Understand the creation of powerful change events in therapy that foster a more secure bond between partners
  • Deal with common impasses and difficult issues in marital therapy
  • Know the contraindications of utilizing this approach to marital therapy
