“And then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to bloom.” -Anais Nin
This quote sits right above my desk at The Refuge Center. It’s location on the wall hits the reflection of the light just so that often clients come in and often think it is a mirror, and in many ways that is what it has become for me.
I go about my work day with the beautiful words just out of my line of vision, but as I pause from typing on my computer or am sitting back to process, the reflection captures my attention. In that moment I am challenged to ask myself, am I blooming or is fear keeping me tight in my bud? Fear can be crippling and can take us over, causing us to never take chances and remain in our areas of comfort. But I challenge you to look in the mirror and imagine what would happen if you stepped out of that fear. What kind of flower would you be if you allowed yourself to explore your dreams, if you challenged your fears?
Facing your fears is never an easy process, but here at The Refuge Center for Counseling we want to stand with you as you look in the mirror and prepare to bloom. Visit us at www.refugecenter.org or call us at 615.591.5262.
