2021-2022 IMPACT REPORT

The Refuge Center exists to offer excellent, accessible and affordable mental and emotional healthcare services in support of a transformational impact on communities.

Letter from Executive Director & Co-Founder

Amy Alexander, LMFT

As you will see throughout this report, The Refuge Center is leading the way in the mental health movement in this community. We believe that no one should struggle or suffer alone. When someone sits and listens to our pain, it begins to give our pain and story dignity, and as that happens our pain transforms and our stories have purpose. Not only do we heal, but we began to use our voice to help others heal. And we believe that the community as a whole is positively and profoundly impacted by each person who finds emotional freedom.

Your gift has an IMPACT on so many lives!

Building Refuge

In 2022, we raised $2.5 million for a total of 5.5 million. With the increase of building costs and interests rates, our project is how estimated to cost 12.7 million dollars. We are looking to raise an additional 7.2 million to be debt free and hope to break ground in 2023.

Hope Grows 2022
Our annual fundraising dinner was held on Tuesday, April 5th, 2022 with musical guest Jon Reddick. We also honored Pastor Darren Whitehead of Church of the City & Pastor Jeff Simmons of Rolling Hills Community Church with The Hope Award. Story of Hope
"Reaching our for help was the best decision I could have made. When my husband died I was a full-time student and the sliding scale made it possible for me to afford the care that I needed. I can honestly say I feel good again, which it something I never thought I'd be able to say again."
Female Client
Story of Hope
"As I look back at the past year, the progress I made with my counselor is the most valuable and empowering skillset I acquired. Counseling has enabled me to not just be aware of my challenges, but to move forward and establish new patterns of thoughts and behaviors that I've admired in others but struggled to forge myself for years."
Female Client
Story of Hope
"The grief group helped bring me back to my path to continue grieving in healthy ways. It was accepting, welcoming and impactful."
Female Client
Story of Hope
“As my counselor began to work with me we had to unravel a lot of things in my heart and mind. We worked hard every week, both of us. I became more and more confident in who I was as whole person and was able to use the tools that my counselor gave me effectively on a daily basis. Counseling has been extremely liberating and life-changing.”
Male Client
Story of Hope
“Our counselor is someone that makes our daughter feel special and not afraid of situations that would normally have thrown her into a downward spiral of anger and depression. I have no idea where we would be as a family if we hadn’t found The Refuge Center.”
Family Client
Story of Hope
“The tools that counseling has given me will go with me for the rest of my life. The fact is: if I would not have come to counseling, I would have never made it this far on my own. I will reach my full potential in life.”
