Self care during the holidays

While the holidays can be a time of great cheer and excitement they can also bring about stress, and frustration. Specifically, within our closest relationships, we may notice more tension.

Maybe it comes in the form of snapping at your partner when they forgot to hang the decorations or pick up the extra gift on the way home from work.

Maybe it is in frustration when your best friend isn’t able to attend the holiday party you have been planning for weeks.

Or maybe it is when you feel like you are doing everything you can to make Christmas special for your children but they seem to be nagging you more than ever.

While the craziness of the holiday season can be so overwhelming, take a step back and still make sure you are taking care of yourself.

If the stress of the holidays is impacting your well-being, allow yourself to take a timeout.

Plan a night with your family where you just enjoy each other’s company at dinner and don’t discuss holiday preparations.

Or go to a movie with a friend who always puts a smile on your face. Or allow yourself an evening to watch that show on Netflix you have been wanting to catch up on.

Our need for self-care and stress-free connection with others is just as important during the holiday season as any other time.
