Answering the Call

A few weeks ago was my first “real” session with a client, meaning a real human was in my real office telling me their real story.

I only had one session that day, and it was all I needed.

Something shifted in me. I carried on with my evening as usual, and the next day the “shift” was still with me. I knew then, without a doubt, I had entered into God’s will for my life. I found myself walking a little taller; I had a little extra pep in my step; I saw clearer.

Somehow in the midst of a scary and uncertain time in my life, I stepped into my calling and felt overcome with peace in spite of it all. Debbie downers may say I just got lucky with some sleep and a sunshine-y day. It’s true weather and R&R can do some amazing things for mood, but they won’t shift your spirit.

Have you ever felt a clear calling and changed your life to answer it?

Along the way, you start to get scared, and the only thing that keeps you going is the reminder of the peace you had when you first decided: I’m going to be obedient.

As you near the end of your journey and things start to get really real, you start to wonder what it will be like to actually have this thing – a certification, a license, a job, a diploma – that you’ve worked so hard for. Now I can say that no amount of wondering can ever quite capture it. It just feels right.

It’s funny to think I’ll never be in the same shoes again. I’ll never have another “first client ever,” and I’ll never forget what she represented to me — the fulfillment of a calling.
